A Community Campaign

We've Been Awarded a Grant!

HUGE THANKS to West Coast Environmental Law who have awarded the Save French Creek Estuary Land campaign a grant.

In early 2019 the Save French Creek Estuary Land campaign submitted Freedom of Information requests to the Regional District of Nanaimo for documentation pertaining to development permit applications for French Creek Estuary Land. Thank you to Mr Calvin Sandborn, QC, at the University of Victoria's Environmental Law Centre who advised us to contact West Coast Environmental Law and submit a grant application.

West Coast Environmental Law Awards Grant

In May 2019 West Coast Environmental Law awarded the Save French Creek Estuary Land community campaign an Environmental Dispute Resolution Fund grant. This fund helps "British Columbians protect the places and people they love from environmental harm."

"West Coast Environmental Law is a non-profit group of environmental lawyers and strategists dedicated to safeguarding the environment through law." We encourage you to visit their website:

The Save French Creek Estuary Land campaign is very fortunate to have Mr Sean Hern, Partner at Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP, providing expert legal advice on legal strategy to protect French Creek Estuary lands from development. Mr Hern acted as counsel for the Shawnigan Lake Residents Association in their victory to halt the dumping of contaminated soil.
