A Landfill in Campbell River: Another Shawnigan Lake in the Making?

Toxic timbers could harm water supply and salmon, say environmentalists.

Submitted by Tyee Staff, 24 Oct 2017

The Campbell River Environmental Committee is alarmed by the dumping of creosoted timbers into a landfill near the community’s water supply.

Creosote, if inhaled, can lead to irritation of the nose and throat, along with sweating, thirst, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain.

The group is also worried the toxins will harm the local salmon habitat.

Watch the video at the sight below. Done by the Campbell River Environmental Committee for an explanation of the controversy.
