All water usage must be restricted to an absolute minimum, the Town of Nanton said Friday afternoon.

The Town is enforcing a level 2 emergency water restriction, which means that outdoor water is prohibited. Household and non-residential use is controlled through district flow restrictions (reduced pressures subject to Fire Services review and approval). Bulk water sales are suspended.

The Town?s wastewater treatment plant is experiencing significant operational deficiencies and it is imperative that there is no additional stress put on the waste-water system, reads a news release from the Town.

The Town is advising residents and business owners to avoid activities that use water such as laundry, dishes, bathing and minimize toilet flushing.

The Town says it is diligently working to resolve the matter.

?We will be reaching out to everyone in Nanton to help share this message, as this is a high-priority issue,? said Tony Goode, interim chief administrative officer.

The Town reassures all residents and business owners that drinking water is perfectly safe. The issue is only with the wastewater treatment plant.

?At this time, we would like to recognize our Town staff and administration for detecting the problem and managing it immediately and efficiently,? said Mayor Rick Everett. ?We ask for your cooperation during this time and will provide information as it becomes available.?
