Celebrate World Water Day With Us!
Port Alberni, BC: Save Our Valley Alliance Public Education Committee (SOVA-SPEC) is
pleased to announce that our Alberni Valley Drinking Water Reference Guide is done! We
invite everyone interested in drinking water issues in the Alberni Valley to attend an Open
House on World Water Day, Tuesday, March 22, 2011 from 7-9 p.m. at the Gyro Youth
Centre, 3245 7th Avenue in Port Alberni.
The Drinking Water Guide’s author, Anita
Francoeur, will be our featured speaker. Also, Pamela Walker and SOVA-SPEC committee
members will do a skit about a major drinking water issue.
Nearly three years ago, SOVA-SPEC embarked on an ambitious four-part project to provide education for residents about drinking water in the Valley. With the publication of the Alberni Valley Drinking Water Reference Guide, we have now achieved the final goal of our project.
SOVA-SPEC is deeply grateful to the Vancouver Island Water Watch Coalition for its help in funding our project, which also included: the creation of a 6’ x 13’ aerial-view laminated map of Alberni Valley watersheds, the 3-D watershed land form model that has been on display at various locations around the city, most recently at the Tseshaht office;
presentations by a variety of speakers and events on the topic of drinking water education; and Headlines Theatre training for the production of skits to illustrate drinking water issues.
SOVA-SPEC hopes that the Guide will help inform Alberni Valley residents to become
leaders in the knowledge about the human and environmental health issues around water, and in sustainable use of our watersheds for the benefit of present and future generations.
The committee hopes that you will help us celebrate World Water Day and the publication of this informative guide. We have produced an attractive brochure that highlights recommendations and information contained in the guide. The open house, as well as the brochure, will be available free of charge to all those attending. Donations will be gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be served.
