Last fall, you let the government know that BC needs a strong new law to protect and manage our precious water resources. The people working on modernizing our Water Act heard this, and have put forward a more detailed proposal for a Water Sustainability Act. It is a necessary move to steward water wisely for future generations.

While there are some positive aspects in the proposal, there are some major shortcomings that must be addressed if we’re going to end up with the kind of water management British Columbians need for a prosperous, healthy and environmentally rich future. We also need to make sure that progress on the new water law isn’t stalled by the upcoming change in provincial leadership.

What can you do to ensure this happens?
Go to the Our Water BC Action Page (http://ourwaterbc.ca/take-action) for information on what needs to change and to have your say in the public comment period, open until February 21st.

If you’re on Facebook or Twitter, ask the candidates running to be the new leader of the BC Liberal party – and Premier of BC – if they will make modernizing BC’s Water Act a priority, protection of water for fish a requirement, and not allow further privatization of water. Click here for candidate contact info, and don’t forget to include ourwaterbc and #leadbcl in your Twitter post. Suggested questions on the Action Page.
