International World Water Day is held annually on 22 March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
An international day to celebrate freshwater was recommended at the 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED).
The United Nations General Assembly responded by designating 22 March 1993 as the first World Water Day.
India Water Portal aims to put together all the events happening to commemorate this day in India and hence create a common platform for communication & interaction.

For the World Water Day this year the India Water Portal is organizing a video contest - The Lost lakes of Bangalore
The Lost Lakes of Bangalore is a project by India Water Portal to document Bengaluru’s many tanks and lakes which have vanished with urbanization and growth. As part of this project India Water Portal is organizing a video contest to document this aspect of Bengaluru's history.
The contest is to create a short film (up to 10 minutes) that documents any particular lost lake of Bengaluru
The documentation can take the form of interviews with people, photo and video clipping of the state of the lake now coupled with any footage of the past state of the lake. The film could investigate the story of how the lake originally was, and the circumstances that resulted in the lake vanishing and the current state of the lake.
The contest is divided into two categories: Students and General
The winning team in the Student category will get a prize of Rs. 15,000/-. All entries that are found to meet a minimum quality level will be awarded a prize of Rs 1,000/- and a certificate of participation
The winning team in the general category will get a prize of Rs 15,000/-
