Cisterns to await water strategy

Parksville council has decided to hold off on requiring all new single-family homes built after Jan. 1, 2010 to have water catchment/ cistern systems to collect rain for watering lawns or washing cars.

Council had asked staff to report on the matter. Staff suggested it would be "better positioned" as part of a larger water conservation strategy.

Chief administrative officer Fred Manson said the strategy will be ready before August.
