Time is running out, so I’ll get right to it.

You may remember me telling you about the community of Centre Wellington – a rapidly growing township near Guelph in the heart of Ontario’s farmland.

Right now residents are in a fierce battle with bottled water giant Nestlé over a local well. The township tried to buy the well in order to secure their future clean drinking water supply.

Nestlé, of course, had other plans. It trumped the town’s bid for their own water, claiming it needs the well “for future business growth.”

VIDEO: Watch the new investigative report by CTV’s W5 on the local fight featuring an interview with me.

You see Nestlé already owns permits for two other wells in the area. Every day it pumps up to 4.7 million litres of water out of those wells into millions of single-use, plastic bottles... from which it reaps obscene profit.

Nestlé pays just $3.71 for every 1,000,000 litres it takes of the community’s precious, clean water. Yes, you read that right.

If you’re outraged by this, you’re right to be. But the fight isn’t over. I’m proud to say that the Council of Canadians is working flat-out to stop Nestlé in its tracks – including our national Boycott Nestlé campaign that more than 40,000 people have already signed on to!

And there’s still a way for the community to get its water back, if you and I act now.

The Council of Canadians is mobilizing an urgent campaign calling on the government of Ontario to step in and buy the well from Nestlé and return it to the people.

Can you chip in $3.71 (the price Nestlé pays for one million litres of the community’s own water), $33.71 or even $53.71 to support the community fight-back?

Your contribution will go directly towards ratcheting up the pressure on both the government and Nestlé. Specifically your gift will help to:

-Launch an urgent public awareness campaign to spread the word about Nestlé’s outrageous water grab and drive more people to join us in taking action.

-Conduct an opinion poll to capture the public outrage and further strengthen our call for the government to do something about it.

-Mobilize a national Boycott Nestlé day of action in dozens of communities across Canada later this month to further raise the public pressure and political will needed.

There is still time to right this wrong – but you and I must act now.

Please give what you can. Every dollar supports the fight to get the community of Centre Wellington their water back from Nestlé. It also supports the broader call for new water laws across Canada that put community needs ahead of corporate profits.

Thank you for being a water warrior!
