Greetings all Fellow Water Watchers So much politics and so much new news about water issues right here in the Comox Valley
A Regional Water Plan is a must, as recently mandated by Ida Chong. It is a needed item in the larger picture of drinking water quality and quanitity for the Comox Valley. But a local citizen and local governement derived plan is surely a bettter bet. A plan derived by and for developers is a biased study indeed and should not have the clout it seems to be getting .
Will Corix Corporation and other private companies be involved in this process ?
Here is some reading for you. Just released on the RDCS website.
Be sure to read the first 9 pages ...It will provide you with professional advise clearly stating that this is a questionable plan.
The Union Bay Improvment District has already approved of this Regional Water plan in principle ,
http://www.rdcs.bc.ca/search_results.asp?id=2108&fragment=0&SearchType=&terms=regional%20water%20study This water study includes Cumberland and Union Bay. It is now just out on the RDCS web site. This is long awaited information that has been withheld from the Public for many months .
Thought you might like the heads up on this story. Raises a million questions...like how long will something like this take to build ?
Langley lake will be used up in the meantime, if this project takes up to ten years to get started. Where will the water situation be in Union Bay ? When the projected increase in population is up to 20,000 people and the existing water supplies in Union Bay can only supply approx. 500 more hookups, then what?
There are so many variables; engineering, financial approval , land purchases, permits etc etc. These things take enourmous amounts of time .
This study would require peer reviews before they can be taken very seriously.
Is this study not putting the cart before the horse ? You be the judge. The UBID is presenting this information to the residents of Union Bay on
Weds. September 12, 2007. at the UB Community Hall. Be sure to visit this presentation and see for yourself how Realestate deals can over power the current Reality of our Drinking water Supplies.
More Water updates to follow soon. Upcoming meetings, speakers and more.
